Lack of consideration for members - Toco Hills - Atlanta, GA

I am an investment banker and requested CNBC to be on one of televisions. I was told three times by the Operations Manager over the course of two months that they would have it on. Never happened. I finally called the General Manager, Dejuan on a Friday.
He apoligized and said it would be on for me on Monday morning. Never happened. However; on multiple occassions televisions are on and the channel is not even aligned with the sound for that channel. They care nothing about customer service. Very poor management.
The operations manager and general manager should be fired. I do not like to be lied to.

Don't do it.

Tried to cancel because I moved out of the range of "relocation to a new facility." Kept debiting my account. Customer service was rude and threatening. Told me my credit would be "ruined" if they didn't get their money. Just. Don't. Get some weights at
the store and run outside.

LA FITNESS IS A SCAM

La Fitness is a SCAM! There sales techniques are really sleazy. i signed up for 3 years thats $750, they promised 5 free personal trainer sessions. The salesman Armando, sent us over to the manager(who is now the manager at la fitness on wilshire) for the free personal trainings. She then made us sign a contract for a couple of sessions promising that we will get our free sessions. As months went by and credit cards were paid, there were reoccurring payments going to LA FITNESS Trainings. When contacting LA FITNESS, the manager, armando, and cooperate about these payments, stating that we only wanted the free trainings not years worth of paid trainings. They said they could not do anything. The manager stated that they cant do anything. LA Fitness is a scam. i Would say go to 24 fitness. Avoid la fitness at all costs. From what they say and what they make u sign is completely different. They make fake verbal promises. Beware.

Horrible gym, scammers and liars

Horrible gym. Not only is the equipment second rate, but they also purposely scam you with their memberships. The sales person told me I could just sign up for 2 months since I was traveling for work and would only be in the area for 2 months, but failed to tell me that it was actually a month by month membership (2 month membership doesn't even exist) and i had to actually cancel it myself when I wanted to stop paying. Fast forward a couple months and I happen to see one of their charges on my credit card so I call them and they tell me there is nothing they can do since it says it is month by month in the form i signed (contrary to what the salesman told me). So basically, if you want to deal with scammers and liars, and also a crappy gym, sign up here!

The LA Fitness Corporation is an unethical swindler, crook, shyster, etc.

After I signed up for LA Fitness in SW Arlington, they gave me my "free" training session. Reuben Cordero, training manager, at that time, with their high pressure, tactics, talked me into a contract with approx. $300 down, and $160 a month. I called back within 3 days, talked to Keith as well as Reuben and cancelled! They put the contract through anyway and I noticed after 2 months that LA Fitness had been withdrawing payments from my checking account. I have called them and gone in, off and on, over the past several months to not only receive a refund, but to stop the fitness contract as well. I had to stop payments through my credit union. LA Fitness has the information in their computer and Keith, in sales, and the current Operations Mgr, Allison O., indicated at various times that I should and would receive my refund. The last I got out of Allison is that 2 vice presidents said "NO"!!! I do not know why. Allison put me in contact with LA Fitness Customer Service; I explained the situation, again, and have never received a call back from La Fitness Customer Service?! I have never received any training services under that contract, other than the initial "free" personal training assessment. I have sent certified demand letters to all appropriate addresses, to no avail, with no response! I am now in the process of taking LA Fitness to small claims court. They are unethical thieves! (I really would not give them any stars; I just can not figure out how.)

RUDE SALES MANAGER AT LA FITNESS! NO BUSINESS WHAT SO EVER!

I was a LA fitness club member for over 4 years.I have to cancel it last year because of my puppy. Now I want to re-join the club again so yesterday(2/27/12) me and my friend went to the Arcadia club try to talk to somebody. The staff's name is Jonny Blanco. For some reason he was not able to pull out the right record of my previous information. I told him I used to have $29.99/month and can bring a friend with me, he said that was not in the system, so you didn't have this offer. My friend went to this club with me more than 20 times before I cancelled it! So I asked if I can get this deal again, he didn't give me direct answers, just saying that was not what I had. Then my friend said " well then, we'll get for 24-hr fitness." Then he said:" IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD LA FITNESS THEN GO FOR 24-HRS FITNESS" We couldn't believe that was coming from the "friendly" "Professional" "trained" staff! I replied:" It's not about I can afford it or not, I just want to know if I can get the same deal that I used to have." Jonny wasn't apologizing for what he just have said, he said:" I CAN'T GIVE YOU THE DEAL THAT YOU IMAGINE YOU HAVE" So we left the club feel very insulted. I can't believe that how can LA fitness has someone like Jonny, treat the previous member and possibly new members in such a way! What kind of staff LA fitness hired? I feel like me and my friend will NEVER go with LA fitness again, and we'll tell all my friends how we were being treated at the Arcadia club.

Horrible service, mediocre training

I signed up for personal training services and was told that my simple goals were easily achievable within a year, only to have trainers wander off to chat, not have a plan before I arrived, new trainers every few weeks so that I have to start over again and again, etc. Then, when I complain to the corporate level to see about getting refunds for my time and money, I'm told that as long as there is a trainer at all, whether we work on anything or not, then LA Fitness feels it has met its contractual obligations. So, even though I have had to start over with a new trainer every month or so (12 trainers in as many months, with the first week being "hi, how are, what are your goals, let's try out some simple exercises, etc," LA Fitness is providing me "personal training." Save yourself time, money, and frustration and hire a personal trainer on your own and leave LA Fitness trainers out of the equation. I would never recommend them for training services for any reason whatsoever.

I froze my membership and agreed to pay $10.73 per month. In August 2011, I decided to cancel the membership entirely after joining a different gym. On August 11, 2011, LA Fitness sent me a confirmation of the account/membership's cancellation pursuant to my request. I was told that the membership was set to expire on September 21, 2011. It is now November and LA Fitness continues to charge my credit card the monthly freeze fee. This company is difficult to deal with and now they are charging my credit card fraudulent fees.

I go to LA Fitness in Laveen AZ. Great zumba class and instructors. Kudos to them. Some of the sales persons and front desk persons could benefit from a customer service training. Yes, understand that they need to "police" customers but there are ways of saying things. They should treat everyone as their customers. I am a paying customer and yet I almost felt harassed when questioned about my membership. Also, the vicinity need a little bit of upkeeping, rest rooms and parking lots are found messy.

HORRENDOUS!! Northridge, CA LA fitness location on 18670 Devonshire St has to be THE WORST LA fitness club I have ever attended. I have had membership there for years and my mom has had on and off membership with them. I decided to take her a few weeks back to take her mind off of a memorial service we had to attend that day. We were going to have her attain a guest pass under me. My mom started walking into the gym, while I was still checking us in at front. The operations manager, Tim Caballeros, started yelling at her to get back. She came back and he said he needed A, B, C to give her a guest pass. He was giving us a hard time with his attitude, being rude, and taking his time. We had to get going after a while for memorial service. He sensed the "rushness" and after telling us that he was setting her up with a guest pass, he looks at us and says "you know what, I don't have to take this, I don't have to give you a guest pass." He started raising his voice and humiliating us right at the front desk where everybody checks in! He started accusing my mom that she was "sneaking" into the gym!! I called HR the next day and they told me they had no right to deny the pass unless she had attended the gym within 6 months, was too old, too young, had some physical limitations. HR put a note under my name saying the next time we go, LA fitness has to honor the guest pass. So we go the next time and the general manager, Raymond Sweeney, somehow knows who we are and immediately says to us "you were here 3 weeks ago weren't you? Trying to get in? I can't over ride that." Then I told him clearly what HR told me and to look under my name for the HR note. He continued to give us a hard time and then blatantly lied that "any ex member of the gym cannot be issued a guest pass." !!!! I again had to REMIND HIM of LA fitness policy for guest passes. I caught a brief expression on his face that showed he was a little scared of being caught of blatantly violating policy. He then did us a "favor" of issuing a one day pass. He did NOT issue the 3 day pass as should have been given!!! Also, apparently the operations manager clearly violated policy by telling my mom's identity and incident to the general manager, because after dealing with him for God knows how long, he started saying the same thing that "you were sneaking into the gym and you used abusive language." I was horrified that such FALSE accusations were put on my mom and I !!! Above all he wouldn't even hear us out and said "This conversation is over!" I would suggest people to sign up at a different gym in Northridge or wait for the new location in Woodland Hills. Cons: -Over 10 years old worn out equipment -Most equipment is broken and remains broken for months with an "out of order sign" on it -Dumbbells and mats are all over the place -Locker rooms are very unsanitary -Locker room bathroom doors have wide gaps which might make one think if people can see through -Most lockers are broken -HIgh theft location, front desk actually has fliers claiming indemnification -Classes are changed all the time without notice, if you call ahead of time to find out, they usually don't know or will just lie to you that class is taking place. For example, the awesome Zumba instructor ditched LA fitness weeks ago. Apparently she didnt give any notice. LA fitness replaced her with someone who clearly CANNOT teach Zumba. I call every time before class to know who's teaching and they tell me Wendy (the awesome Zumba instructor). When I get there, she's not there. -Most class instructors do not know what they are doing. Be careful of injuries -Staff is extremely rude!! -Management is more rude than the staff!! -Management will practically yell at you and humiliate you in front of other clients and staff if you disagree with them!!! -Very overcrowded, have to wait in line for most equipment If you're on a mission to lose weight or just stay fit, it won't happen here. You might just gain some from the stress they give you with such rude service. Don't expect to get any good classes, equipment, motivation, or service here. It won't happen. Feel free to write letters to the real corporate office, here’s the address and phone number to HR;. But you probably wont get anywhere there either:. Contact the Better Business Bureau, an Attorney, and/or State General/. La Fitness International LLC 2600 Michelson Drive Suite 300 Irvine, CA 92612 you can direct those letters to the following executive members: Chin Yi: Founder Louis and Michu Welch: Co Owners ) Stan Yasuda: Executive Assistant Jill Grueling: President of Operations Leslie Blanchard: Vice President of Operations, Suzzie Horton: Vice Presidents of Operations, ) Mindy Stokesberry: Head of Human Resources 800-600-2540 ext: 57783 I hope we can get together an make them pay for a change,

I have been a member of LA Fitness since October, 2010. I frequent the Huntingdon Valley location. The gym is dirty, especially the restrooms and the pool area, and the equipment is outdated (please see attached pictures). The vents are covered with dust and there are water stains on the ceiling tiles. This is definitely a health hazard. The cardio machines, particularly the elliptical, are rusted and often out of order. The paper towels are often empty so people don't wipe down the machines when they are done. Overall, the facility needs a total renovation. If the Board of Health came in to check the facility, they would most likely close this location.

If you charge over $30 per month per member, there better be state of the art equipment in this so-call “State of the Art” facility. Needless to say, I am quite frustrated and the statement below that you post on your website is a poor representation of the La Fitness that I know. This is false advertising.

“When you enter an LA Fitness, you know what to expect. The state of the art facility and equipment are familiar and comfortable, but what we are most proud of are the people who are there to serve you. The people who warmly greet you, expertly train you, enthusiastically teach you. lt is the entire team, our best resource, who is dedicated to making your fitness experience an exceptional one.”

I expected a much higher level of service from your company, and I am quite disappointed. I find myself complaining everyday to the front staff but my concerns are ignored. I go to the gym to relieve stress but instead leave irritated and do not enjoy my workout. Because I do not want to spend any more time on this problem, I have cancelled my membership and plan to join another gym that offers a comfortable and clean environment, new and fully functional workout equipment, and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. If LA Fitness doesn’t start investing the time and energy into these franchises, I highly doubt they will continue to surpass their competitors.

In addition to cancelling my membership, I sent a letter to corporate with pictures of the facility to further exemplify my complaints, and I submitted a formal complaint through BBB. I received a call yesterday from some "Operations Manager" in Georgia. He was no help at all. He has no idea that I sent a letter to corporate and claims he is unable to discuss the matter with corporate. If I complained through the BBB to corporate office, why am I getting a call from rep in Georgia? Corporate office is in California. Overall, LA Fitness consists of very unprofessional and unwilling to help individuals. I don't want an apology from LA. I want them to fix the gym and refund my $390 I wasted over the last 12 months. I will never re-activate a membership with LA Fitness and will continue to have my friends and family members cancel their memberships. No referrals will come from me ever again!

Their practices for signing up training sessions are misleading to say the least. I met with a trainer who signed me up for what he said would only be for 3 months of sessions and after that I could cancel with no penalty. He showed me the screen with the 3 month agreement and he even threw in extra training session with him. Unfortunately, I neglected to get a copy of the agreement and I signed on electronically. Well low and behold, I go to LA Fitness to cancel my training session and the agreement they printed up, with my electronic signature states that I entered a year long contract. I attempted to contact the trainer who signed me up and guess what, he's no longer employed there. When I spoke with the manager of membership, he said that he would give my information to corporate. I asked if I could have the name and number of the person at corporate and he said he can't do that, he just forwards the info. to him and he will get back to me. This is the most egregious example of of false practices that a gym can do.

Ok here is a story of LA fitness I called the Alhambra Branch located at 412 East Main Street, Alhambra and I spoke to a person name Tony, he offer me the membership at $799 for 2 years and then 99 for renew plan. I told him I will think about it, I called another branch at Pasadena at 201 S. Lake Avenue Pasadena, CA 91101 the person who I contacted with is name Edward Vazquez, he give me the same deal, except I only have to pay 600. So naturally I took my time off work, drive to Pasadena (traffic was hell, took me over 1 hour drive, then I have to pay for the street parking as well) and sign up with Edward. Later that day Tony called me and found out that I sign up with another branch, then he proceed to sabotage my deal on purpose (which I didn't give him any permission to look into my membership plan), he called his superior and then later I got a phone call from some guy from the Alhambra branch told me the deal I have is canceled, he told me the deal I got was illegal. Then I asked him how was that not legal? I called your Gym phone number, speak to your employee, got the quote from him, I drove down there to sign up for membership, at what point the action I did was illegal? He didn't answer that, then I asked him what is your name, what is your employee number, how can I know you are legal and what you tell me is legal, he give me his name as Edward with no last name and did not give me his employee number, then hang up on my face promptly which I did not finish talking with him. I called back on the phone he called me, and there is no one name Edward work there, basically he flat lied to my face. I now hold in my hand a legit contract of my membership which I obtained through the normal legal process, which I took time off my work, and just by 1 phone call from them few hours later, it is now a worthless piece of paper. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GYM, they deliberately sabotage their own customers, and fight among themselves, they do not keep their word, they are not honest to themselves, they are by far NOT honest to their own customers. What you are dealing is the worst of the worse of corporate American, avoid LA Fitness at all cost. Never join them if you can.

BEWARE. If your debit card expires, they will call 5 times in 4 hours to the phone number you supplied, if it is a relative, they won't quit if you are asleep or at work, they will state they will keep calling and will purposefully keep calling at least hourly till they get their monthly $26.00. Our adult child had an account and like a hard core debit collection agency, they refused to stop the frequent calling campaign till they got paid. Our son was not behind in payments, we even told them the best time to call, but they couldn't wait for the $26.00 for even a few hours.

My experience is one of typical corporate non-responsiveness. While the on-site employee told me my account would no longer be billed for personal training sessions, I continue to be billed over $300 a month. A while ago, after their failure to stop billing for my daughter's membership, and after I had been billed for months after she left California, they grudgingly gave me some three day passes for her to use. Guess what? Visiting this week, she brought in one of the passes and they refused to honor it. No surprise. This is typical. And, of course, every complaint is answered with, "That's company policy." When I asked for the corporate phone number, I was actually told by the employee that only one man there knew the number! Right! They are happy to take my money, but not happy to support their personal training program with space or equipment, or to even keep their word when it comes to finances. Very sad!

Very disappointed-even after trying to get out of our contract from Pure Fitness who was bought out by LA Fitness. They will not refund us our $95.00 to get out of contract and never go back. They closed down the 3 gyms I used to go to and now the La Fitnesses in AZ are way too overcrowded. There is no good time to go-as you will always have to wait in line to use a machine-cardio or weights. WARNING: From personal experience "Do not join LA Fitnes!!!!!!

TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! DO NOT GO HERE! - LA FITNESS - HOUSTON, TX - Located off Richmond Ave

I have NEVER in my life dealt with the most deceitful and disrespectful group of "managers" in my life. I am OUT $550 because of personal trainer that lied to me about the contract I signed up for.

Don and J (personal trainer and personal trainer manager)are some of the most unprofessional people I have ever done business with. I was told I was signing up for a contract that included an initiation fee and purchased 6 personal training sessions. I paid $350 the day Don sold me the package. One week later, I get a phone call telling me that I am going to expect $204 deducted out of my checking account for the next YEAR. I was caught totally of guard and called back the individual to get the issues resolved. Since then, I have been going round and round with J (Javier) and other LA Fitness employees to get this issue resolved. When brought into the club to discuss this, I was basically told "Well, maybe you should have read the contract before you signed it." The trainer left out so many details when I signed up for the contract that I was and will still stand by the fact I was maliciously tricked and taken advantage of for him to get a sale.

One month later, I am still waiting on getting this resolved. I am a educated woman with a degree from a very large university - I can assure you signing that contract was no mistake of mine. I was given false information and taken advantage off for being a 23 year old female.

I have never been so disappointed in a business! BEWARE OF CONTRACTS HERE! THEY WILL MISLEAD YOU INTO SOMETHING YOU DO NOT WANT THEN TURN IT AROUND AS IF IT WERE YOUR FAULT!

Have heard plenty about cars being broken into but the reason I have rated this high is because the only time i go to the gym is at night and the last couple times I have left the gym I have specifically noticed cops in the parking lot. I would like to assume this is the gyms doing and they are on watch and for that, you receive 4 stars.

February 1 I mailed a cancellation letter to the address in my pro results training contract. I had fulfilled my contractual obligations and also decided to quit the gym entirely as I no longer had time to work out. March 10 I was billed as usual for my fitness membership, and March 25 my training membership was billed. April 6 I called and spoke to a representative who said they had no record of my letter ever being received. I basically told them that I didn't believe that was true and that I wanted my memberships cancelled immediately. She assured me that she HAD cancelled them. She also stated she would refund the fraudulent charges for the month of March. I assumed the matter was resolved. April 11th I received a call from another representative informing me that my training membership was still active and that I needed to go in the gym to speak with the OM to cancel it. I asked why I needed to have mailed a letter in if I could have cancelled in in store originally. She gave an answer that did not even make sense. But she assured me the fitness membership was cancelled. Yet I see they billed me April 10 for another payment for my fitness membership (that I was assured by two people was cancelled). I want LA fitness to refund all fraudulent charges IMMEDIATELY. This is a terrible company that has no honesty or integrity. They should be shut down. They are basically REFUSING to cancel my membership. THIS OCCURRED AT THE TEMECULA, CA location. If this does not become resolved I WILL take LEGAL ACTION against this company. EDIT: 4/20: LA Fitness has responded to my complaint and assured me that they will cancel BOTH memberships effective immediately and refund payments for the month of March. I will update when payments have been credited to my account. 4/23: Another attempt was made to withdraw money out of my account...still awaiting the promised refund. Just when I though it was over...it continues. 4/26/11 - Both refunds were issued, so once again I thought this was over. Look at my account and they deducted 29.99 out of my account. They basically issued a refund, and then deducted it right out of my account. Looks like I'm closing my bank account. Nobody in the company seems to be able to resolve this.
