Bob,
There's a whole lot of info on loan modification and the risks of dealing with these kinds of companies on this forum. Use the Google search box and input "loan modification" and you will find loads of questions and useful responses.
Here's the BBB report on CDA Law:
http://www.la.bbb.org/PublicComplaints.aspx?CompanyID=100070733
Homeowners should not pay any upfront fees or give anybody a post-dated check. Loan modification businesses have proliferated in the past two years for obvious reasons. The problem though is that while they're good at marketing their services, they fall far short when it comes to delivering on their promises. The BBB's experience with these companies has been extremely bad, and many states including California, have enacted laws that make it illegal for these companies to collect monies in advance of actually completing the modification service.
Call a HUD approved housing counseling agency. These non-profit groups will do everything a for profit company will do and they have credibility with the mortgage lenders. The good news is that their services are free. Still, there's no guaranty that this will result in a modification, but you won't be burned in the process. The toll free number is: 888-995-4673.
For more info on loan modification, check out the LABBB's Facebook page at:

Specifically, check out the "Notes" on various loan mod topics and info that can apply to homeowners anywhere.
Good luck.
