Review 5/24/2010
This company is a complete fraud. Absolutely do _NOT_ do _ANY_ business with them(I wish I could assign negative stars, cause this company deserves a minus infinity, in my opinion). I did not have the problem of them taking premiums from my credit card after cancellation because I put a stop-payment on my card for any charges from them. Additionally, I had to put my credit card company on them to get them to talk to me so I could cancel the policy and obtain a cancellation number(when I would call, they would pretend they couldn't hear me and would refuse to talk to me); by doing so, if they try to charge my card, they can be held liable for fraud(at which point, they will have to contend with the lawyers from my credit card). They promised me a refund in 30 days for the up-front applicant fees. However, after almost 60 days, I have received no refund. I called them about it, and they said that I need to give them more time. At that point, I decided I was done with them, and it was time to involve government agencies to deal with them. I wish I was thinking more clearly at the time before I got involved with this company, however, at the time, my thoughts were being skewed by a case of pancreatitis. Just as a note, they used to have a phone number (866)326-5461. However, they have changed it to the present number (786)393-5689. As I have found, a number of people on the web are reporting not to accept a call from the former number. I can only guess they changed the number to get around that. Also, if you go to their website, www.congressionalhealthplans.com, you will notice how the site is oddly anemic. It's just enough to be a front, but by no means complete. As a further note of lesson learned in all this experience, don't do a blind search for health insurance on the web. Find out directly what carriers actually do business in your state. Do the homework of determining the legitimacy of the carrier before doing any business with them(any reputable carrier should be well-known and established anyway, so finding them should not be hard). Finally, you should be able to contact the carrier directly and apply. Never give your full personal information over the web when searching for insurance. Steer clear of any search site that requires full disclosure of personal information to search for insurance, such information is not at all necessary for them to return quotes and list policies of various carriers in your area. This all sounds like common sense now, but as I said, I was not in the right frame of mind due to an existing illness. Even so, I still consider this a grotesque error in judgement on my part and take the entire saga as a life-learning lesson.
