I contracted Paul Charette to draw plans to renovate a small porch, add a laundry room and a patio deck to a house in Coral Gables. At the time I hired him I did not know his office was located in Boca Raton, FL, which proved to be one of the problems with this architect. He is rude, tactless and simply a very unpleasant man to do business with. I always tried to be polite when talking to him, but for some reason, he was always very unpleasant and downright arrogant. His work was completely unusable. I made the mistake of paying him in full, and none of his drawings were accepted by the City of Coral Gables Board of Architects. Mr. Charette refused to show up to present his drawings because he did not want to drive down from Boca Raton to Coral Gables. (I would add he should have never accepted the project if he was not willing to present his work to the City). He chose instead to provide the plans to me, and it became MY responsibility to present the plans to the Coral Gables Board of Architects. I am not an architect and I am was not prepared to explain any of Mr. Charette's incompetent drawings. The city pointed out to me that the plans were COMPLETELY WRONG and several times asked me why Mr. Charette would not come in to present his work. I explained Mr. Charette did not wish to trouble himself by driving down from Boca Raton. After several submissions, the City architects suggested I should look for a new architect who would be available to present his work. Paul Charette is totally oblivious to Coral Gables building codes and his drawings were rejected at every meeting of the Coral Gables Board of Architects.. Every time I brought the plans back to Mr. Charette, I would have to deal with his unpleasant demeanor and disdain. He would not accept any criticism from the contractors who would point out to me all the shortcomings of the plans. Mr. Charette would simply say that "no contractor will ever tell him how to do his work" Well his work is totally incompetent, and perhaps if he listened to the expert advise of professionals, he might learn valuable information from them. I would strongly discourage anyone from contracting this individual, as he is difficult to communicate with, and grossly incompetent as an architect. I made many mistakes with this man. The first one was to enter into a contract with him, and among other mistakes, I never should have paid him in full. When he saw that his plans would never pass through the Board of Architects of the City of Coral Gables, he never should have taken my money. Paul Charette is disreputable, and I discourage anyone from contracting him to draw plans. Most sincerely, Sara Rosado, Coral Gables Florida.
