Starving Students does not deserve even one star. Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware. If you use this company be sure to video tape every move that they make. I bought their insurance and unfortunately had to file a claim. They basically told me that if I don't have more evidence of their damages other than photos and witness' then I can't prove they did it. Beware,Beware,Beware,Beware. Melanie Thompson of Starving Students says that the claim was not filed until 1/7/11. I contacted Starving Students on 11-23-10 to let them know about the damage that I wanted to file a claim about. Evita Vestal (Melanie Thompsons assistant) then sent me a claim form that needed to be completed in order for them to process the claim. Melanie is aware of my initial contact with the company as evidenced by an email trail. The claim form was not completed immediately only as a result of my work/travel schedule. Starving Students is suggesting that even though they knew about the damage it is not valid because requested paperwork was not filed when they were notified. Starving Students indicated that they investigated the claim and no proof was submitted that they did the damage being claimed. They asked us for photographs of the damage and a description. We provided that. We were not aware that we needed to video tape the movers so that we could watch them damage our property on television. They were the last people to touch the damaged items, so is is safe to say Starving Students is responsible. The SS (Starving Students) crew advised Melanie Thompson that they padded and protected the items and it wasn't possible for the damage to occur. This is not true, nothing was covered at any time as attested to by witness’. If the item in this claim was covered then there would not be finger prints or a large hand print on the screen of the damaged television. Another item that should be pointed out is that we have a dresser that has some damage, the SS crew pointed out this damage before they moved it. They did not point out any damage on anything else. If they wrapped the Television for protection then they would have noticed some damage (if there was any) and pointed it out to us. Upon the SS crew arriving for the move and our discussion about liability and their telling us that we need to get insurance through them to cover any damage that they cause, I was also told that they are very very careful because any time there is a claim then they (the crew) are required to go through a drug test. I can understand why the crew would have a challenge with the truth so as to avoid any repercussions such as drug testing and or job loss. It appears that honesty is a challenge from the top of the company all the way down to the labor level. SS says “The customer stated that they watched the television being mishandled, yet they didn't inspect the television while we were there?” The way it was explained to me was that the television was put on the truck last, the door was lowered and would not close all the way. The door was raised again and the television was pushed back further so the door would close. The term ‘mishandled’ sounds like SS was openly derelict in the handling of the television, it didn’t appear that grieves at the time so that explains why a rush to inspection did not take place. SS suggested that since it took so long for us to report the damage that a lot can happen during that time. The move took place on 11-15-10, the damage was reported on 11-23-10 that is eight days after the move. The claim form was completed and accepted by Starving Students on 1-7-10. We elected for Full Value Protection - This option provides for recovery for lost or damaged items based on current replacement value at the time of loss or damage, up to the dollar amount of valuationd declared by you and/or the total amount of coverage offered of $20,000. This verbiage is straight out of their contract. Which we were lead to believe is actually additional insurance. Melanie Thompson said she was able to find several used televisions just like the one that I have asked to have repaired or replaced per the terms of their contract for an average of $150.00. I found the item she talked about on Craigslist, she doesn’t tell you that the two listings were for the same television (listed twice) and that the seller put in the comments that the green color in the television was about to go out. SS did offer $150.00 but that does not fulfill their end of the agreement per their contract. I am not looking to get a used television, to inherit another persons problems. SS has taken up a large amount of my time by not honoring their agreement and I am not the first person to go through this with them. I have since found a large amount of information on the company which indicates that Starving Students is ready for a class action law suit.
