Overall, a horrible experience.

We used this company in late 2014 to finish our garage and the experience was pleasant, quick, and uncomplicated. On that basis, we hired them to finish walls in a playhouse we built from a kit. At first, the quote was reasonable and the family was very friendly. they claimed the job would only take 2-3 days and would start immediately, as their schedule was clear.
Things went downhill almost immediately. Mario never showed up when he promised, and some days did not show up at all. We were given a barrage of excuses when we inquired about delays: Forgot about birthday parties, emergency jobs, vehicle repairs, weather, church, and sometimes they just forgot. I am not unreasonable, I have two small children so I understand that life is complicated, but Mario never arrived prior to 12:30pm, usually around 2:30pm, even when he told me during smalltalk that he had no other jobs and work had actually been slow.
We had minor unexpected framing work that needed to be done so the drywall could be installed properly... It took 2-3 hours and he used wood we had leftover form building the playhouse. When I offered to pay for the extra work, Mario declined, but then asked if we would pay the remaining balance in advance because they had encountered some unexpected expenses. I was uncomfortable doing that but Mario assured me that he was "trustworthy" and promised to get the job done. We felt bad and paid him.
From December 5th to December 19th, I had to repeatedly ask if he would come out and finish the work. I became frustrated, but tried to be understanding... We had had a positive experience with them in the past and they do have multiple good reviews.
Mario elected to delay installing the baseboard until we painted the walls, which was an option we had discussed before starting the project, so no work was done/expected over the holidays.
I texted to schedule for the baseboards on January 4th, expecting delays due to forecasted rain/snow that week. On Tuesday the 12th I asked when Mario might be able to finish the job and was told they would let me know when by the end of the day. Thursday the 14th I was told over the weekend. I asked for a more specific timeframe so I could plan my weekend around it, and was told again that they would get back to me.
Friday 12:28pm I asked again and was told they would let me know. Five hours later, I still had not heard back so I requested again, letting them know I felt this treatment was unprofessional. Finally I was told Sunday by noon and I requested that he please show up on time because we had plans to take my 2 and 4 year olds to a birthday party that afternoon and wanted to be present when the work was completed.
Mario texted at 11:46am on Sunday to say that he was going to church and would be there "about one". Naturally, I was upset about yet another broken promise and said he should not have promised noon if he had planned on going to church later than that.
Mario accused me of being difficult, told me he would rather deal with my husband, accused me of owing him $200+ dollars for the extra framing work, and insisted that we should just "call it even". I refused, reiterating that we paid for the trim and installation and he should refund the payment if he was not willing to complete the work. Mario told me that he could not "deal with me", that he would not finish the work I paid him for , and that I was "very unhappy as a person"... Who could be happy with that treatment?!?
