Waller Plumbing was contacted to braze 4 fittings and start up a recently installed AC unit, for a charge rate of $105/hour on 9/15/2010. The installer arrived at ~11:20 AM, and left at 11:45 as he was out of gas, unable to do any work. Although he was told to braze the fittings, he insisted he would solder them. He returned at ~12:30 and tried to solder the connections, and was unsuccessful, ruining the fittings supplied by the owner. He left at ~1:15 PM. After he returned at ~2:15, he said his boss had brought him the correct materials. This time he brazed the connections, finishing the job at about 4:00. He said he would charge us only for time spent. When he said 2.5 hours, we questioned the time, as we were paying by the hour. We had counted less than 2 productive hours on the job. He said to call the boss, and left without giving us a bill.
Waller was called the next day. Although he had been at the site to provide replacement materials, he apparently did not survey the work. He was (after the fact) concerned about a permit, inspections, that the installation was not to code. He continued in a threatening tone, and ended by saying that he expects to be paid when the job is finished, although we had not been given a bill. When we got the bill, the hourly charges had been changed from 2.5 to 3 hours, plus materials, including the ruined fittings. The bill was paid in full, although we felt that we were overcharged for the hours and material already provided. We were also unhappy about the extra time that our plumber had to spend and additional time off work we spent at the job site. It has become a common practice for contractors to charge for doing the job the wrong way, then charging again to complete the job correctly. We were very disappointed in the time wasted before the job was done correctly and the attitude of Mr. Waller afterward. We do not recommend his company.
