Review 10/20/2009

I came to the agency for a closed casting audition a week ago. I was asked to call the agency later on that day to see if the company was interested in representing me. When I came back for a meeting the next day, a talent representative explained that the agency would receive a 20% commission off my work, and that representation would begin after I paid $895 for new photos which would include 50 zed cards, a portfolio book, my proofs, and one year of online registration with the company. The representative pushed for me to pay for the services right then, with an option of paying a $300 deposit during our meeting and the rest when I met with the photographer (if I couldn't afford all of it upfront). The representative tried to use the tactic that "I wasn't serious enough if I didn't pay for the pictures" and that they only had "7 spots left" so I needed to act quick "before they choose someone else". I explained that I was going to wait because I didn't have the funds to pay (while in reality red-flags were popping up everywhere) and I was mocked by the representative for not having $300. This company is a scam and tries to use persuasion and "hurry, hurry, hurry before this wonderful offer ends" tactics to persuade people to use their company. If a true talent management company is interested, they will not request any upfront fees. This has been said time and time again. I would advise that all people interested in proceeding with this company refrain or proceed with caution.
